Session Overview:
This presentation explores the emotional and practical impacts of post-caregiving, focusing on grief, loss, and the unique challenges faced by caregivers. Topics include the grieving process, multifaceted effects of caregiving, and the transitions that follow. Resources and strategies to support caregivers in navigating their grief journey, fostering resilience, and finding meaning in their post-caregiving experiences will also be highlighted.

Objectives:

  • Increase knowledge on post-caregiving grief.
  • Explore resources for caregivers.

Presenters:

  • Pam Orzeck: With 25 years of experience as a social worker and research-practitioner, Pam has worked on family caregiving, social gerontology, social policy, and mental health. Her latest research explored women’s bereavement after caregiving. She currently serves as Director of Field Education at McGill University’s School of Social Work.
  • Zelda Freitas: With over 25 years of experience as a social worker and supervisor in CLSCs, Zelda is the Coordinator of the Expertise in Caregiving area at CREGÉS, CIUSSS West-Central Montreal. She focuses on topics such as caregiving, elder mistreatment, palliative care, and healthy aging.
